Change 4 the Kenai, and our community partners, have identified education as the primary method of preventing overdose. We have developed an online and community school course, COPE (Community Overdose Prevention Education), and have hosted and promoted naloxone training through GetNaloxoneNow.

COPE Courses: Community Overdose Prevention Education

Change 4 the Kenai offers classes available to the public for free through the community schools program. This partnership allows us to reach anyone who is interested in learning more about drugs, addiction, prevention, communicating with family, and emergency help for overdose victims. 
NOTE: During the COVID-19 pandemic COPE courses will be available online only.

Online COPE Courses

This class will focus on: the science behind addiction, the recently released Surgeon General's report regarding addiction, prevention and understanding of factors that may lead to addiction as well as those that build resiliency and naloxone training.

Topics covered in this class are: drug education, drug culture, why people take drugs, how drugs work and affect the mind, the truth about heroin, the truth about prescription drug misuse, and naloxone training.

This class will focus on: positive parenting, discussing drug abuse and addiction, indentify and making changes, ACEs and resiliency, peer-to-peer talk and training, and naloxone training
